The Bible has much to say about God’s desire for us to be humble and kind rather than cruel and proud. When Jesus says, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” He is prohibiting every attitude or behavior that results in devaluing or wounding a family member. Becoming one flesh in a marriage implies that neither partner is to be treated as inferior. Humility is central to how Jesus operates. He does not use power to dominate and coerce.
